For as long as I remember, whenever I left my Grandparents house they always followed us to the front door to wave goodbye, sometimes coming out into the street itself to see us off and tell us to “mind how we go’. I thought this was completely normal until I started going to friends’ houses and saying goodbye to their families with either a shout goodbye or a quick embrace in the house before leaving - it was never the event is was in my family.

As I’ve grown older and moved out of my family home I realised that my parents did exactly the same! They always saw me off and told me to mind how I went. Throughout the later half of 2024, I decided to capture each time I left my parents house as I now realise how special this ritual is, and the love and care it displays. I regret I never got a photo of my grandparents and so I want to capture every goodbye from my parents while I can.

Throughout this project I’m embracing the opportunity to document my parents and capture this family ritual.
